Extend your reach beyond New Mexico.

You can have impact beyond your own Senators and Representative. That's especially important if your Federal legislators are already doing their best to defend democracy (like those here in New Mexico).

Most calls and emails are tabulated by staff who give total numbers of calls and emails on each side of an issue to the Senators and Representatives. Those elected officials openly say that they have two lists – one for the opinions from people in their own state (Senators) or district (Representatives), and one from those outside – and that they care much more about that first list.

You can multiply your impact by reaching out to friends, relatives and other people in your network who live in other jurisdictions and can get their views onto the list that counts more. Get them to reach out to their elected officials and tell their stories. For example, Senator Thom Tillis (R-North Carolina) doesn't care what someone thinks if they call or email from a New Mexico address. But he might care what my college roommates who live in North Carolina think.

You can prioritize your impact. It's worth reaching out to all of your personal network, but some people are probably a higher priority, especially those who are constituents of:

Democratic Senators who have voted for Administration nominees in 2025:

  • Sen. John Fetterman (D-Pa.)
  • Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.)
  • Sen. Ruben Gallego (D-Ariz.)
  • Sen. Maggie Hassan (D-N.H.)
  • Sen. John Hickenlooper (D-Colo.)

Republican Senators who have shown some willingness to vote against Administration nominees or policies:

  • Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska)
  • Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine, facing a tough re-election in 2026)
  • Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY)
  • Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY)
  • Sen. Thom Tillis (R-NC, also facing a close re-election in 2026)

Other Senators facing close re-election campaigns in 2026:

  • Sen. Jon Husted (R-OH)
  • Sen. Jon Ossoff (D-GA)

Democratic leaders in both Houses:

  • Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY), Senate Democratic Leader
  • Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL), Senate Democratic Whip
  • Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY), House Democratic Leader
  • Rep. Katherine Clark (D-MA), House Democratic Whip
